The concept behind a typical conversion is actually quite simple. EV’s are a lot less complicated than a modern car so there isn’t actually a lot to do.

Step 1)

Remove the old engine and everything directly associated with it. This includes the radiator, fuels tank, exhaust pipe, starter motor and alternator. Basically you just don’t need any of it any more. Don’t worry about losing parts or being gentle with anything unless you are planning on trying to sell the old parts.

Step 2)

Work out how much room you have and where you are going to install things like the batteries. The electric motor itself is a lot smaller than the old petrol engine so you have a reasonable amount of room under the bonnet but it is unlikely that you will get all of the batteries in the front so look at how much room you have in the back. Many converters look at removing the back seat although if you have a large car, Ute or van you may not need to.
