I know they are required by all WA registered cars... but how do you go about it in an EV? I think they usually work by installing a valve in the fuel line that will only open after it receives the proper code. Or something like that. I guess you could modify it to control a solenoid from your main batteries (after the DC-DC conveter), or directly at the motor or something.
Anyone been through this?
Actually I think they are required only if you are transferring the registration. I don't think there is any regulation saying you can't remove one while you’re converting to electric but if you sell it after the new owner is responsible for installing one before doing the transfer.
EDIT, only thing might be that the insurance company might not cover you if the car is stolen.
Hrm. Could be that, yeah. Though I think I'll put something similar in my car, just in case. I'm not going to put all that work into it to have some prat come and take it away!
Hrm... I wonder if the Robocop-style car alarm is legal...? :P
Maybe something like this could be adapted. I think I might look at it for mine.
